1. What is Heare.me?
Heare.me is a social music platform that connects people who are listening to the same music at the same time. When you're playing a song and someone else in the world is listening to the same track, you can see each other and chat in real-time. The platform includes a gamification system with experience points, levels, badges, and action points.
2. How it works
Heare.me uses the Last.fm API to detect what you're currently listening to. Here's how it works:
- You connect your Last.fm account (which tracks your listening from Spotify, Apple Music, etc.)
- We periodically check what track you're playing
- If someone else is listening to the same track, you'll see their anonymous nickname
- You can chat with them in a chat room tied to that track
- You earn XP by listening and chatting, unlock badges, and level up

Heare.me is an independent project and is not affiliated with Last.fm. We use the Last.fm API to access your listening data with your permission. Last.fm is a trademark of Audioscrobbler Limited.
3. Your privacy and anonymity
Your real Last.fm username is never shown to other users. Instead, we generate a random nickname for you (like "CosmicBear42" or "NeonWave99"). This nickname is persistent and tied to your account so others can recognize you across sessions, but it is not linked to your real identity.
4. Chat messages
- All chat messages are encrypted (AES-256-CBC) in our database
- Chat rooms are tied to tracks: anyone listening to the same song shares the same room
- Messages are stored permanently and encrypted
- Be respectful to other users. Harassment, spam, or abusive behavior is not tolerated
5. Pinned tracks and action points
You can spend action points (AP) to permanently pin a track's chat room. Pinned rooms remain accessible even when you're not actively listening to that track. Pinning is permanent and cannot be undone.
6. Gamification
Heare.me features an experience system with 42 levels, 20 unlockable badges, and action points. XP is earned by listening to music and chatting. This data (XP, level, badges, streaks) is stored permanently and tied to your account.
7. Acceptable use
By using Heare.me, you agree to:
- Not use the service for any illegal purposes
- Not harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Not attempt to access other users' personal information
- Not spam or flood the chat
- Not attempt to exploit or attack the service
8. Service availability
Heare.me is provided "as is" without warranty. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time. We're not responsible for any interruptions or data loss.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
